        President denies report about US, Argentine "invasion force"
        ------------------------------------------------------------

                        Text of report by Colombian RCN radio on 3rd April


President Ernesto Samper has just issued a brief communique which states:
Regarding a report in Buenos Aires today about an alleged invasion force
that is supposedly being made ready by the United States and Argentina to
enter Colombia, Narino [Presidential] Palace announces that such a report
is absolutely unfounded. [Issued in] Narino Palace, 3rd April 1998.

That is the text of the communique that was issued by the Presidency.

After learning about the report, President Ernesto Samper met several of
his advisers to study the situation and confirmed that the report is
false. So the national government has ruled out any such possibility and
has stated it is false that the United States and Argentina are planning
to enter Colombia.
