If the campaign that the Hoover FBI conducted against the Communist Party is any example, you know that these people will always behave this way. You had FBI agents themselves wondering what possible purpose their offenses against the Constitutional rights of these Communists could serve. All that effort and what did they find?: That Communists were decent, law-abiding citizens - only the most concerned, principled, altruistic kind mind you, good neighbors through and through. FBI agents said it themselves. Meanwhile FBI agents would jump over four Mafiosi just to spray pepper gas into the eyes of a radical environmentalist. American law enforcement is a joke. They are brutal, bad at their jobs, entirely concerned with macho fantasies of violent threats to the status quo, and entirely unconcerned with preventing crime. They will never change and it's unreasonable to expect them to. The story of the FBI is not the story of an evil plot by devious masterminds. It is the story of what happens when you give too much power to a lot of sad squares and losers. They're like bad dogs: You don't know whether to kick them or pity them. FBI behavior against leftists is only a subset of the general behavior of law enforcement towards working class people.
