Further thoughts on "Sand in the Oyster":

(1) Actually, we can be fairly certain that, however lists are filtered, a
certain proportion of dogmatism, empirical nuttiness, wild originals, etc
will sooner or later show up. So while I still hold to the principle of a
loose filter, I don't think we have to deliberately let in junk.

(2) What I think list moderators and frequent contributors should do is
remain sensitive to any deadening sameness developing. My original post on
this failed to honor sufficiently the principle that "junk is ever with
us," and thus urged looking for trouble too much in advance.
