Subject: M-I: The wharfies' struggle

To follow the latest developments in the worldwide dockers movement, now
focused on the Melbourne dispute, check out the Dockers Update section of
LabourNet at

http://www.labournet.org.uk/docks2/other/update.html

For a few days there might be some problems getting really fresh info
there, as LabourNet's Service Provider GreenNet was recently hacked and
brought down, but normal service is gradually being resumed (it's just like
the early days of TV!).

Cheers,

Hugh

PS Don't forget to get hold of and read Bill Hunter's book on the history
of the dockers' struggles in Britain:

	They Knew Why They Fought
-- Unofficial struggles & leadership on the docks 1945-1989
	Index Books, London, 1994
	ISBN 1-871518-09-1
The best background briefing you'll get on the fight to break the bosses'
totalitarian grip on the docks and replace the brutal conditions of
casualization (daily fistfights for the jobs allocated by arbitrary and
unjust supervisors), zero safety and extreme exploitation with decent
conditions and an organized docks labour force represented by a union that
listened more to its members than to the bosses and government.
