From: curley-AT-pseud.pseud Date: Wed, 27 Nov 1996 09:27:12 MST Subject: M-INTRO: black market? I am sure that there is no argument that capitalism has lead many times to black market activity (bootlegging during prohibition, illegal drugs, cigarettes, cuban cigars, etc) as well as the sub- terranian economy (working under the table, off the books etc) which even by conservative economic estimation reduces the U.S. GDP by 15- 20%. It is worse in socialist societies? I hear horror studies whereby for example new and used levi jeans that sell for $15-40 a pair here in the states will sell for 10 times that overseas. Did Marx account for it and if not how would a Marxist explain it? --- from list marxism-intro-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
