The recent topic of here of exploitation is quite
interesting. I for one have never worried too much about
exploitation even though I usually feel my work is worth a
lot more than I am being paid. I am currently reading a
novel that paints a vivid picture of exploitation and the
effects it can have on the lives of real people. The book
is "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair. Many of you have
probably read this horrifying tale of an immigrant family
literally giving all they have just to survive in Chicago
in the capitalist driven packing house division of the
city. Without making this a book review, I'd just like to
recommend the book to anyone interested in reading about
the real life impact of exploitation of unskilled laborers.
The brutal capitalistic system took the lives of many and
destroyed the lives of countless others. The book really
is an eye opener and even though we have made some progress
in the United
States, I'm sure that very similar conditions exist among
workers in the third world countries where American
corporations have gone to produce their commodities.
