I just want to add my two cents to this conversation. I was born po' white
trash. I feel successful in my carreer. I am a success story. I am not
wealthy because I have been trapped in the beat the Jones scenario. When I
began taking economic classes I realized that our society pushes
"'propaganda' [that] tells [people] they should get (a big house with big
TV, big SUV and big pool, or something like that)." (Tamar) As I climb the
ladder of success I am propelled to purchase more and more. The more money
I make the more I spend. In my carreer I come across people who make over a
hundred thousand dollars a year who are swamped by maxed out credit cards.
It is a sad success story for many. My spouse and I were discussion our
dire financial situation recently, and realized that we were in this same
trap.

Isn't it interesting how we can't escape the propoganda.
