I would like to take Mike up on his challenge to name another country that
gives as much in charity/aid as the United States. I would also like to
respond to his attack on Edler2u's comments.

First, per capita Sweden, Norway and Denmark all give more than the United
States in aid to other countries. Granted in actual dollar amounts the
United States gives more but it would be inane to try and compare the net
amount given by a country with 8 million citizens (Sweden) to one with 265+
million (USA) Not only that, Sweden has the world's highest tax rate with
corporate income taxes reaching up to 77% and yet they still give more.

Mike, if you are attending the University of Utah like many of us are, then
I highly recommend that you enroll in the Healthcare Economics course taught
here. Once you do, you'll find out that the United States does indeed have
the best healthcare in the world, the only problem is that the majority of
people can't afford it and the majority of HMO's refuse to supply it! Also,
specialization is one of the major reasons that healthcare costs have
skyrocketed in recent years, hurting the average person more than helping
them. Granted, if you got shot the hospital would be forced to treat you but
what if you came down with cancer? Chances are that you might be one of over
50 million uninsured Americans who are very low wage earners for the most
part. You would have to chose between starving your family and withering
away to nothingness in front of them. Or what if you did have insurance on
one of the very popular HMO's? They would cover you for possibly a few years
and then when expenses became too high, they'd find a reason to drop you.
Sure you could always sue them but chances are by the time the case reached
court you'd be dead anyway.

I can tell you that there are better alternatives to Capitalism all over the
world. There is a huge difference between being alive and having a life
worth living. There is also a huge difference between working to live and
living to work. In the United States we live to work under the capitalists.
