Subject: Re: M-INTRO: Electoral Votes COUNT!


I can't believe with all of the discussion on the electoral college how most
everybody seems to be so passionate against it, yet everybody has ignored the
opposing view and engaged in some serious "groupthink."

The electoral vote actually empowers people.  I have not yet seen anyone respond
to my reference to the article originally published in Discover Magazine called
"Math Against Tyrrany."  I just did a search on google and found a link to my

There is another article, a local one in the Deseret News by Jay Evensen.  One
of his points is that getting rid of the electoral college would cause other
problems.  For example, in many cases it would empower a third party candidate
to get enough votes such that no one candidate would have a sufficient
percentage to win and the voting would be determined by Congress, making each
individual's vote count for even less.  Here's the url:
