Is criticism towards our leaders ever something that should be stifled?
Should we support someone just because we think there is no chance of things
changing?

Here are a few relevant quotes. I am not putting my interpretation of them,
but see if they don't shed some light on the subject.

"We should never forget that everything Adolf Hitler did in Germany was
"legal" and everything the Hungarian freedom fighters did in Hungary was
"illegal." -- Rev. Martin Luther King

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of
the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you
say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality." --
Bishop Desmond Tutu

"As long as the world shall last there will be wrongs, and if no man
objected and no man rebelled, those wrongs would last forever."-- Clarence
Darrow

So Hitler and Stalin (who was in power longer "period of time" than any U.S.

president) should have been "supported and dealt with" by their people?

I agree that it is important to have criticism- as long as it is
constructive. I also believe that when a decision is made that has no
possibility of changing for a period of time, it should be supported and
dealt with. There are some things that just aren't worth criticizing or
complaining about because it won't change. ie. The President of the United
States especially in their 2nd term.
