I think bsw8 has a strong point.  I personally do not care about many of my 
fellow Americans.  In all actuality, I might even despise some of them from 
the South; however, that does not mean that we should let some sort of 
social Darwinism take place.  Social welfare programs do have a strong and 
rightful place in modern politics, whether they are from the South or not.
I think that a human life is a human life and social welfare programs should 
be determined by relative terms not absolute.  The incredible amount of 
inequality that exists today should make the coldest of hearts cringe.  
Someone needs to be done for those people in absolute poverty living off 
less than one USD a day, not the bum that panhandles for whiskey outside 
Nordstrom’s.
