From: Isaak-AT-pseud.pseud Subject: Re: M-INTRO: Do any of us realize how bad poverty is in the US? Date: Sat, 04 Dec 2004 18:23:48 -0700 I think bsw8 has a strong point. I personally do not care about many of my fellow Americans. In all actuality, I might even despise some of them from the South; however, that does not mean that we should let some sort of social Darwinism take place. Social welfare programs do have a strong and rightful place in modern politics, whether they are from the South or not. I think that a human life is a human life and social welfare programs should be determined by relative terms not absolute. The incredible amount of inequality that exists today should make the coldest of hearts cringe. Someone needs to be done for those people in absolute poverty living off less than one USD a day, not the bum that panhandles for whiskey outside Nordstrom’s. >From: zookeeper-AT-pseud.pseud >Reply-To: marxism-intro-AT-lists.village.Virginia.EDU >To: marxism-intro-AT-lists.village.Virginia.EDU >Subject: Re: M-INTRO: Do any of us realize how bad poverty is in the US? >Date: Sat, 4 Dec 2004 14:59:42 -0800 (PST) > >Action doesn't need to just take place in congress to >change the poverty problem in the United States.
