Rather, what about homeowners insurance, auto insurance? Auto insurance is required by law if you want to own a car. Why is the government forcing us to pay into private enterprise? The argument for private enterprise is usually that through a profit motive things can be better organized. I don't really see the evidence though. But like Iamthefury says just the fact that insurance firms make money, make insurance a bad deal. If the government eliminated that profit skimming, it's assumed that cost would go down. I'm all for it.
