ACT UP mobilized 800 people who marched through the streets shouting: "Wall Street trades on people with AIDS," "We die, they make money!" and "Health care is a right!" Big signs denounced the price-gouging pharmaceutical companies and demanded AIDS treatment for everyone who needs it. Other signs condemned President Clinton and the Congress for moving to cut Medicaid and other social services. Teams of demonstrators blocked entrance points to the Stock Exchange repeatedly. Each time a new area was opened by the police more demonstrators were there to block it. Police arrested 72 people. A special team of demonstrators poured symbolic blood on themselves, broke through the barricades and attempted to get into the stock exchange. When the metal gates were quickly rolled down, demonstrators splashed the blood on the Stock Exchange doors. --Marsha Goldberg
