From: LabourNet <chrisbailey-AT-gn.apc.org> (by way of Zeynep Tufekcioglu <zeynept-AT-turk.net>) Subject: M-NEWS: Message from Liverpool dockers to Santos port workers Date: Sat, 12 Apr 1997 16:02:25 +0300 To Santos port workers from Liverpool dockers At a mass meeting of the 500 sacked Liverpool dockers, their families and supporters, on 11 April, the courageous struggle of the Brazilian dock workers in the port of Santos was fully reported. We salute your stand against the policies of privatisation. These policies, aligned to deregulation, have adversely affected dock workers and trade unionists the world over. Liverpool dock workers have had to fight against privatisation and deregulation in the 19 months of their struggle. In the port of Liverpool, as it now stands, workers' rights have been totally eradicated. We condemn the actions of the Brazilian government in using the might of military police and threatening the intervention of the army. Liverpool dock workers will do all in their power to publicise the brave fight of the Santos port workers, including at the mass March for Social Justice taking place in London on 12 April. We call on the world wide dockers' international movement to lend its support to your fight. Merseyside Port Shop Stewards 11 April 1997
