The combined units of army and police decended by surprise on the township of San Juan de Lurigancho arresting 84 suspects who were taken to the Anti-terrorist police headquarters. This operation took place a few hours after the explosion of the car bomb that destroyed several public installations in the Vitarte district (Lima), among which the Police District headquarters, the Town Hall and two other government buildings. The action was claimed by the PCP by means of leafletings. Around 1,200 soldiers and anti-terrorist policemen came from several points into Montenegro urban township, a sector considered as one of the most important bases of Shining Path in the eastern side of Lima. The Commandant in Chief of the operation which began at 6 a.m., was Colonel Paulo Da Silva of the 18th Armoured Division. In their house to house searches police and soldiers arrested 84 suspects. Among those arrested was Eradio Benites Delgado (37) who was found to have in his power 34 22.bullets. Also among the arrested were Edie Nieto Rodr=EDguez (37) and his companion Elizabeth Ospina Sotelo. They also had 6 cartridges 32. and two radio receivers. Another of the arrested was Oswaldo B=E1ez Sosa (22), who had in his possession a 38. gun with a complement of five bullets. Anti-terrorist police sources said yesterday that these "raking-up" operations will be conducted permanently in the poor shantytowns zones of Lima and also within the urban centre.. Meanwhile élite units of police and army have intensified operations along the central highway - from Yerbateros all the way to Chosica (around 40 kilometers) - since there are indications that rebel units are operating in the area. "Lack of care and overconfidence was taken advantage of by Shining Path in order to carry out their attack on Vitarte. This time we are ready to stop actions of that kind taking place" said a trooper with an anti-terrorist police unit. ---------------- Ha, Ha, Ha......just wait your turn is coming, turd!
