Sandline inquiry report today

By JOHN APAMI

PORT MORESBY: The Sandline Inquiry Chairman Justice Warwick Andrew
will present his report to Acting Prime Minister John Giheno today.

Justice Andrew is expected to arrive at the office of the Acting Prime Minister at
Morauta Haus at 8.30am to present the report.

Sidelined Prime Minister Sir Julius Chan established the one-man judicial
commission of inquiry before he stood aside to investigate the allegations of
corruption in the Sandline deal.

Sacked Defence Force commander Brigadier General Jerry Singirok publicly
challenged Sir Julius Chan, his deputy Chris Haiveta and Defence Minister
Mathias Ijape to resign and called for a commission of inquiry to look into the
Sandline Contract to engage foreign military consultants to train PNG soldiers.

As a result the country especially the nation's capital was thrown into chaos for
10 days in March.

Justice Andrew took about six weeks to complete the inquiry. On receiving the
report, the Acting Prime Minister will study the recommendations and decide
what action to take.

Mr Giheno is believed to have two options to deal with the report.

First, he may keep the report until after the elections and allow the incoming
Prime Minister to table the report in parliament or he may proceed
immediately to implement the recommendations of the report.
