The leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) said late Wednesday it had turned over evidence to judicial officials of election ``irregularities'' in at least 200 voting stations during Sunday's gubernatorial election. The irregularities ranged from vote buying to intimidation of voters, PRD officials said. ``There are about 200 contested voting stations,'' the party's representative at the State Electoral Institute, Juan Gonzalez, told Reuters. He said there were a total of 753 voting stations during the election. The conservative National Action Party (PAN) also denounced irregularities in 46 polling stations on Wednesday, PAN officials said. Campeche, a poor state on the Yucatan peninsula that is home to most of Mexico's oil reserves, voted to elect a new governor, one of six such races held during Sunday's national congressional elections. The PRD, while winning the first-ever election race for Mexico City and polling better than expected in the congressional races, lost the Campeche race according to preliminary results. Ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) candidate Antonio Gonzalez Curi garnered 99,513 votes versus 83,523 for the PRD candidate Layda Sansores. Final results were expected on Thursday. PAN state leader Jorge Vaqueiro told Reuters the pro-business party believed it had won the mayoral race in the state capital instead of the PRI, which has held power in Mexico since 1929. -- To unsubscribe from this list send a message containing the words unsubscribe chiapas95 to majordomo-AT-eco.utexas.edu.
