Rally Against Nazi Bookshop

For the fifth time this year opponents of fascism will take to the
streets of Fawkner on Saturday 9 August to protest the Nazi bookshop
and organising centre run by National Action.

A rally organiser, Ms Alison Thorne says `the campaign against the
Nazi shop has achieved considerable success. National Action is now
much less visible in Fawkner and the leadership of the organisation
has returned to Adelaide. Our aim is to stop National Action from
putting down roots in Melbourne and building an active Nazi movement.
We are working to send National Action packing through mass, sustained
community opposition like we did in Brunswick in 1994.'

Protesters will assemble at 1 pm at the C.B. Smith Reserve, Jukes Road
Fawkner for a 1.15 pm rally.

Speakers at the rally will include representatives from the Disability
Liberation Front, Queer Action, Chilean Popular and Indigenous Work,
Freedom Socialist Party and a Public Transport unionist.

Due to the government's provocative and unnecessary closure of rail
lines, Campaign Against the Nazis will be running a bus to Fawkner
and a shuttle between the North Coburg Tram terminus and the rally.
CAN has chosen to use a Met Bus as a symbol of solidarity with the
public transport workers. The bus will pick up protesters at noon
from outside Storey Hall, RMIT in the City, at 12.15 from outside
Brunswick Town Hall in Sydney Road, at 12.25 from the bus stop at
the corner of Sydney Road and Bell Street Coburg and at 12.35 from
the North Coburg Tram Terminus. A shuttle from the tram terminus
will then run from 12.35 - 1.30 and then back again at the end of
the rally. Fawkner residents are welcome to use the CAN shuttle bus.

What is Campaign Against the Nazis?
Campaign Against the Nazis is a broad united front coalition of groups
and individuals united in our opposition to neo-Nazism and fascism.
We are a direct action organisation. We are in favour of large and
disciplined counter demonstrations against neo-Nazis and fascists
whenever and wherever they meet. We believe in the necessity for
public education about the fascist threat. We believe that all victims
of fascist violence have a right to defend themselves.
