"The British government is doing little more than tinkering at the fringes of the RUC, whilst leaving intact its role as the cutting edge of the British/loyalist terror machine in the six-counties. "Does Mo Mowlam honestly expect the Irish working class to accept this unreconstructed sectarian paramilitary force because it has a new name or uniform? "This is the same force that was set up to defend British interests in Ireland, a role that it continues to fufill today with undisguised relish. "Even through the duration of the so-called "peace process", the RUC has surpassed even its own inglorious past, this is evidenced by the brutal tactics it employed against the nationalist community on the Garvaghy Road, Portadown. The RUC has also played its part in aiding and abetting loyalists to forcefully evict over 200 catholics from their homes in the past three years. "More recently it stood idly by whilst loyalists kicked Robert Hamill to death in Portadown. Its chief constable Ronnie Flanagan is on record as saying after the RUC had forced an orange parade through nationalist north Belfast two years ago savagely beating nationalists in the process that 'the RUC had sterilised the route of the march'. In conclusion, Mr. Little said "like the flawed peace process no amount of tinkering with the RUC will suffice. The RUC need to be put out of business immediately."
