IRSP Ard Comhairle Call for a "No" vote in Referenda

Follow a meeting of the IRSP Ard Comhairle at the weekend, the Party
has decided to call for a no vote in the forthcoming referenda.

Ard Comhairle spokesperson Kevin McQuillen said, "At our 1997 Ard
Fheis, motion 23 was carried unanimously. Motion 23 stated:

"That this Ard Fheis reject any proposals emerging from the current
pacification process being subjected to referenda on separate parts of
the island of Ireland. The result of the referenda will be illegitimately
claimed as an expression of 'self determination' by the Irish people and
will in fact underscore and re-enforce the partition of Ireland.

"The Ard Comhairle after careful examination of the current pacification
process has decided that the outcome of hte talks can only be deterimental
to the long term aims of the Republican Socialist Movement.

"At no time in the current process has the option of a 32 County Socialist
Republic been on the table for discussion. Unionists have consisently
refused to enter into any type of meaningful dialogue with the Nationalist
community. Unionists have been supported in their 'no talk' strategy by
both the British and Dublin governments.

"It is the IRSP's view that any outcome from the current process will be a
British imposed partionist settlement and far from being democratic its aim
is to subvert the implementation of an Irish democracy."

In conclusion, Mr. McQuillen said, "The IRSP are calling on all republicans
and socialists to reject the current pacification and any outcome that emerges
from it. For our part we will be initiating a series of meetings both
public and
private with like minded political parties and independents with a view to
maximising the Vote No campaign. It is of the utmost importance that Britain
is not allowed to achieve by stealth and duplicity what it could not
achieve by
force of arms.

"Protect Ireland's national interests. Vote No!"
