Hello All

Well I finally got around to making a post. I am a Phd student in sociology
at Newcastle Uni in Australia. I am also an activist with the Democratic
Socialist Party with a strong commitment to marxist activism which is mainly
producing an alternative newspaper "Green Left Weekly" (check us out at
http://www.peg.apc.org/~greenleft/.

I am interested in men (masculinity?) in heterosexual relationships and how
they "negotiate" their positions of power but I want it to be consistant
with a Marxist framework. Of course this had been tried but not very
convincingly, though I have just got a couple of Wolfensteins books. I hope
that this Phd will help me to understand the gender dynamics of
relationships (and myself) better. I have read some Freud but I remain
suspicious, though I hope someone out there might convince me.

I will save my thoughts on other topics, I just wanted to say "HI" and how
much I enjoy this group though the initial posts were a bit over my head.
There is not (m)any people in my dept who are terribly interested in this
sort of stuff.

Comradely
