Chris,

Very interesting post. Memory is, as Loftus and others have demonstrated,
constructive and reconstructive, not reproductive. Even if the memory has
some actual basis it can be distorted. False consciousness is based in
both manufactured and distorted actualities. I think that with distorted
consciousness there may be uncovering, but this uncovering must be
corroborated with independent fact. I am always reminded of Blade Runner
when I consider the implanting of false memories. The character Rachael
comes to mind. "Implants," Deckard says, "Those aren't your memories; 
they're somebody else's. They're Tyrell's niece's." Identities are
bestowed.
