Subject: M-PSY: Host for marxism-psych list

Since the announcement that Spoons collective will stop hosting
marxism-space lists if I recall correctly, on 23rd May, quite a lot of
activity has taken place. It has also been possible to have a long
consultation period in practice.

Few strong views have been expressed and I indicated I favoured a solution
that placed marxism-psych alongside some other lists including hopefully an
open marxism list, as I think it is viable only as part of a wider system.

Hans Ehrbar, as moderator of the former marxism-space at Spoons, who has
given technical support for marxism-psych, has now been able to solve a
number of technical problems at his site in Utah. He has also undertaken,
which I think is important for the future of lists like this, to explore
links to allow mirror sites, so lists in future are not all dependent on
one computer or one server.

Marxism-thaxis is moving to this new site in Utah, and marxism-news has
already moved. There are what appear to be well developed plans for
marxism-intro and marxism-ezines to move there, and prospects of a
moderated theory list, and a moderated list in socialist economics. It also
seems likely that a marxism-open or general list in some form will be
supported.

I am not sure of the timings of all these steps so I am not reporting some
of them as absolutely definite. I have however written to Hans requesting
that marxism-psych can also move to the same site out of the university of
Utah, and he has confirmed the offer. In due course people will receive
announcements about this and about the other lists.

People who want to follow steps more closely, can subscribe to
marxism-transition from majordomo at the usual Spoons address until the
change takes place.

I have some regret that Marxism-and-Sciences, is at a separate site in
Emory, as there is an overlap in subjects from time to time at the
scientific level. I would be happy if Louis Godena as moderator of that
list, would like to post here details of how people may subscribe to it.

Meanwhile the internet is designed for networking, so I hope that relevant
information on different sites will not be a problem and people will
contribute themselves to making the connections that are most creative and
productive.

I will also ask Hans Ehrbar to keep this list informed of useful steps as
they develop.

None of this is compulsory of course. Perhaps it would useful to remind
people how to unsubscribe.

Send the message "unsubscribe marxism-psych" in the text part of the
message to
majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu

If you want to see what happens in the coming months, wait for further
developments. If you want to explore and contribute yourself, so much the
better!

Chris Burford, moderator.
