I recall Glucksmann's The Master Thinkers; I read it when it came out. It was pretty embarassing. Ah well. We in AMerica also have a long tradition of ex-leftists melting down their brains after they went over. Very few of them did anything good, I mean, minimally respectable, subsequent to their switch. Alan Wald has a book, The New York Intellectuals, which coversa good slice of this history. One interesting exception is Kolakowski, whose Main Currents of Marxism, while virulently anti-Marxist and anti-socialist, is nonetheless a solid and often useful piece of scholarship. --Justin Schwartz --- from list marxism-thaxis-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
