You've got to be kidding. Bre-X is a minor localized storm. It's not going to undermine "all-important market confidence" in any major way. Of far more interest and significance are the ecological consequences of successful gold mining, which are horrendous. And right here in the USA, the world capital of bourgeois-democratic legalism, the government is practically giving away gold and other minerals on federal lands (ditto oil and timber) - all right in the open.
