Oh, and one last point about "tied hands" -- I have made a decision to be a co-moderator on a list of individuals, with whom I have many disagreements. As a libertarian, I would not be HERE, amongst Marxists, if I didn't take seriously the contributions of everybody, ESPECIALLY those with whom I disagree. I think we owe it to ourselves, from wherever we place ourselves on the political spectrum, to engage in the kind of critical dialogue, the ancient notion of "dialectic," that strengthens, that "builds character," that sharpens our cognitive capacities and logical arguments. If we were among only those who agree with us, it would be terribly boring. I belong to lists of libertarians, Randian Objectivists, Hayekians AND Marxists, and I have my fill of critical exchange. It would be nice for people to TRY to shift subtly, their vantage point, to at least imagine, what it would be like to look at the world through the eyes of the other. I do it regularly, and I would like to say, for the record, that I have been, for the most part -- with a few extraordinary exceptions -- most welcome amongst this community of Marxist sympathizers. I would not trade my membership on thaxis with anyone, all the BS notwithstanding. I like most of the people here, and have grown immeasurably in the process. - Chris ==========================================Chris Matthew Sciabarra, Ph.D. Visiting Scholar New York University Department of Politics 715 Broadway New York, New York 10003-6806 Email: sciabrrc-AT-is2.nyu.edu Website: http://pages.nyu.edu/~sciabrrc ========================================== --- from list marxism-thaxis-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
