From: "Russell Pearson" <r.pearson-AT-clara.net> Subject: M-TH: Global Warming Date: Sat, 23 Aug 1997 12:03:20 +0100 Global warming is measured in two ways: 1)The first is via the 'little white box'- ie thermometers mostly in cities and on land. The problem with this is the "Urban Heat Island Effect"- the localised result of expanding asphalt and concrete. 2)Satellites- these measure the mean global temperature and are accurate one hundreth of a degree. These have been in operation since 1979. 3) Radio sonde baloons What do they reveal? well the land based measurements show a trend towards global warming, but the baloons and satellites do not reveal any such trends. source: http://www.vision.net.au/~daly/ Global warming?
