I agree with his scathing appraisal of appeals to irrationalism and cheap relativism by minority intellectuals and deplore the underdeserved defence they receive from white pomos who are no less and indeed maybe more responsible for the current degradation of intellectual life. I have been reading more of this dreck than I want in connectual with my work as an articles editor on the Ohio State Law Journal, and it concerns my suspicion that that white or Black, the only direction pomo takes is back. I have a bit more regard for Cornel West than Ralph, although I probbaly don't know as much as about West as Ralph does. But he has written two reasonably decent books, The American Evasion of Philosophy, on pragmatism, and The Ethical Dimension of Marxist Thought. Nothing is profound in either book, but both are respectable efforts. Ralph knows better than to call Nietxsche a fascist. N has a lot of problems, but brown shirts are not among them. --Justin Schwartz --- from list marxism-thaxis-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
