Hello Andrew,

A good place to start would be Ken Knabb's "S.I Anthology"
which has a broad range of articles from members of the
Situationist International. Guy DeBord's "Society of the Spectacle"
and Raoul Vaneigeim's "The Revolution of Everyday Life" are
central texts to this fractious and interesting group.

Blaggers guides would include Sadie Plant's "The most radical
gesture" (academic), Greil Marcus' "Lipstick Traces" (readable
pop culture history), and (the chancer's chancer) Stewart Home
"Assault on Culture" has a short introduction to the S.I and their
antecedents.

Jean Barrot, the french ultra leftist, short and polemical "What
is situationism" is interesting if you have read some of the stuff
already. Henri Lefebvre, the brilliant French Marxist who was
mentioned last week on the list, is very interesting to read
alongside situ texts as he has a lot in common with them while
remaining quite seperate from them ( see the "The critique of
Everyday Life" and "the Production of Space"). Socialisme ou
Barbarie also influenced DeBord greatly so if you plough through
a lot of this stuff Castoriadis would be worth reading.

http://www.thorn.net/~rose/index.html

is a situ zine but there is also a lot of archive S.I materials and a clear
introduction to the S.I there

http://www.nothingness.org/SI/index.html

is a an extensive archive of Situationist articles

http://ernie.bgsu.edu/~swilbur/si.html

has some intoductory links and bibliography

By the way thanks to everyone who took part in the
Frankfurt school thread it was one of the better
on-line discussions I have read in a while....

Anyway, back to work.

Slan,

Fergal
