Subject: M-TH: Richard Mellor's Friday "joke"...


Dear lists,

I am publishing a "joke"  by Richard Mellor, Vice president of AFSCME Local 
444 in Oakland California and my reply. His "joke" was sent in to the list 
which is suppose to be a list for unions and people who work in the public 
sector. I am also sending this to my union newspaper..and naturally a future 
issue of Cockroach!

Richard Mellor who claims to be a "Vice President" of a union wrote...

Reply to Richard Mellor's Friday "joke" which is hardly amusing. 

In fact it shows a man who claims to be a "2nd vice president" of a union 
shits on mental handicapped people but also many of the hard working people 
who try to give these people, not just healthcare, but a better life. They 
do this as underpaid slaves, with three shift work, 24 hours a day and 365 
days a year. As a member of one of the biggest unions here in Sweden who 
organizes personal who work with the mental handicapped and under 
increasingly difficult circumstances in these times of social cuts and 
downsizing, we have a Friday joker who's joke (albeit unconciously I hope) 
is despicable and an insult to the incredible work that mental handicapped 
workers try and do in order to give people with mental handicapps a decent life.

 We are professionals in fact. Not only do we have to have intensive 
schooling in medicine, being a nut doctor, mother, father and friend to some 
of our paients, but also learn various forms of communication like sign 
language..In the job also goes a lot of other shit like cleaning up puke and 
blood, piss and shit of people who's only crime was being born with the 
wrong chromozones in their genes, or because of complications in pregnancy 
or syndromes or a number of other things that these people hardly can be 
responsible for.

And here we have a trade union leader who thinks making jokes about this 
stuff is funny. Why don't Richard walk into a Detroit car plant and tell his 
joke. I suggest he change the "patient" to "Nigger" and see how far he gets 
before getting a black foot stuffed in his mouth!

And Katie who is the list "mother" should realize that Richard's "joke" is 
far more repulsive then the whining going on here about language about one 
particular management guy being told to Fuck Off...

In fact Richard's joke is far more dangerous and despicable because it is 
directed at not only defenseless mentally undeveloped people, but and entire 
corps of mostly women workers who through history have worked very hard with 
very low pay and incredible work shedules. How many of you have to go out on 
Christmas or New Years Eve? Get the picture.

And as far as Richard is concerned. Here in Sweden your statement would have 
meant that your cozy job as "Vice President" would have become ex Vice 
President because we would have shown you despicable ass right out the door.

Because it shows that you don't know anthing about the conditions of workers 
in this branch nor the patients we have to take care of. In ending up I 
would like to say--take some toilet paper and wipe the shit off your mouth!
