The fact of the matter is that NY's municipal water supply, once the finest
in the nation, is facing a huge crisis. Fertilizer run-off is affecting all
of the upstate reservoirs and the ruling class is not sure how to deal with
this problem. It is a classic "second contradiction" problem. The
petrochemical sector of American big business *needs* industrial
agriculture as part of its revenue stream, even if water supplies are
tainted. The auto industry *needs* to make a profit from sexy, hot-button
vehicles whether or not they advance the tempo of global warming.
