Thaxalotals
Firstly merry whatever to the lot of you from the moderators of thaxis.
Secondly it was recently pointed out to me that Rob and I havent up dated
the thaxis info sheet so that Chris and Jukka are still listed as
moderators. Before updating the info sheet I thought I'd ask people if
they saw any great need for amendment to the information contained in the
info sheet (see below).
I dont but I thought I'd invite comment because thats the kind of caring
consultative moderator I am.

>Welcome to MARXISM-thaxis.
>Please read and save the following message. You will want to consult it
>later!
>
>MARXISM-thaxis is an open and moderated forum for the discussion of
>theoretical issues raised in both the work of Karl Marx and, more
>generally, the tradition(s) that work has inspired. In keeping with
>Marx's own attempts to bridge the gap between theory and praxis,
>MARXISM-thaxis encourages participants to explore the theoretical and
>practical implications of issues raised in this forum. Indeed, we have
>chosen the neologism "thaxis" precisely to convey our own interest in the
>integration of theory and praxis. For those who participated in the
>marxism-2 discussion list, we hope that this will be a new "home" for
>engaging critical dialogue. We also welcome all new participants.
>
>Marxism-thaxis highlights the interrelatedness of basic
>strands in different Marxist traditions, and in traditions that have
>critically engaged Marxism. During the 20th century, there
>have been several "Marxisms," not only the deceased "eastern"
>Marxism-Leninism but also "western" Marxism in several forms: beginning
>with Antonio Gramsci, Karl Korsch, and Gyorgy Lukacs, ranging from
>the Frankfurt school to the "structural Marxism" of Louis Althusser
>to analytical Marxism to the cultural Marxism of Stuart Hall and to the
>post-Marxism of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe (to name but a few).
>This list is inclusive then, and our discussion encompasses all
>of these developments and more, stretching across intellectual boundaries,
>incorporating aesthetic, cultural, economic, historical, ideological,
>moral, political, and social science disciplines.
>
>Neither being a "Marxist" nor an academic nor being an activist
>is required for participation here. All that is required is active,
>critical, and respectful engagement in the dialogue that ensues.
>We also recommend the following:
>
>(a) Try to remember the subject line of the post you're writing or
>replying to. This will make it easier for participants to search
>and find the posts in their personal -- or in Spoon -- archives.
>Stick to the issues (or threads, as we call them)! Making sure that the
>subject line of your message corresponds to its content is always helpful,
>and will increase the chances that your contribution will be read by
>others engaged in the dialogue.
>
>(b) We're also recommending that participants economize on the number of
>their submitted posts. We aim to limit the number of weekly posts,
>and also, to reduce unnecessary flaming. (Indeed, there are always
>participants who are paying for every minute they're online! We don't
>want anyone to go bankrupt because of this list!) Make it a policy not to
>send many one-liners and lengthy cross-postings. Try to limit the length
>of quotes from previous postings in any replies that you author. Short
>articles or summaries and references to articles which are intended to
>start a conversation or are related to some on-going conversation are
>welcome. Otherwise, forwarded articles may be more appropriate for the
>several left newsgroups that exist on the Net. Longer essays and papers
>can also be announced onlist and then posted to those who ask for them, or
>may be made available via Spoon's electronic archives.
>
>(c) The moderators are committed to political freedom, and no attempt at
>censorship based on opinions or intellectual content will be made.
>However, we *recommend strongly* that people shall restrict nasty
>and pejorative comments to personal, off-list (non-public)
>communication. If such comments are posted, we will pay close
>attention to it and will notify you as to their inappropriateness. If
>such comments are repeated two or three times, depending upon the
>context, your subscription may be cancelled. (Humour, though, isn't
>forbidden and/or denied!)
>
>(d) By subbing to this list, you will also receive ANNOUNCEMENTS deemed
>by Spoon to be of general interest to Spoon lists from time to time. You
>may subscribe to any or all of the spooner lists, but we ask that you
>greatly minimize cross-posting so that list traffic is manageable.
>
>You have something to ask? Contact the moderators:
>
>Chris M. Sciabarra
>Jukka Laari
>
>or the Spoon Collective .
>
>They'll try to help you as soon as they can.
