Drum and bass emerged a few years ago from a mix of techno breakbeat, the type of music being played on soundsystems in Jamaican dancehalls and some playing around with new technologies. At its best it can be simultaneously melancholy and invigorating. Bass which you feel in your gut before you hear it and beautiful fractured symphonies which seem somehow perfectly appropriate for the time we live in. If you sit on a bus and you have the misfortune to be sitting beside someone who is listening to it on a walkman it is more like a bad case tinnitus. Anyway Louis, enough of this banter, it's about time we swapped insults: as >>Dizzie Gillespie says "Jazz is too good for Americans!" > >But is it also too good for Brits? > Yep........ the only thing they deserve is a night at the proms (exit stage left for the stage Irishman) --- from list marxism-thaxis-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
