Date: Wed, 28 Jan 1998 00:57:15 -0500 From: malecki-AT-algonet.se (Robert Malecki) Subject: Re: M-TH: Morality and Law Are Not Necessarily The Same Thing Jim's letter on the right to abortion (including sex selection) led to a letter from Casey who took his position on this stuff to beat on the "stalinists and Trotskyists who he claims want to decide the "morals" of everybody in state power. This is untrue. In the first place I think I agree with Jim on the question of rights here. But this does not mean that the workers state is "neutral" on the supposed reasons for abortion. Because the reasons especially when it comes to sex selection are based on the reactionary ideologies of previous societies.. Thus the state should provide the "right". But it should also argue and if necessary intervene against abortion on the basis of sex selection. This can be done both through education of the history on this stuff, but also through practice in that the workers state wuill provide for all of its future citizens in a collective and equal manner when it comes to housing, healthcare, childcare etc.. These kinds of decisions will not disappear over night. It is stuff that is embedded in ages of backward and reactionary ideology and practice.. Interesting by the way that Leo leaped on this position of Jim. Just shows the real motivations in back of Leo case earlier.. Now he wants to throw defend his moralist crap from earlier by taking the leap in the other direction in order to expose the Stalinists and Trotskyists he sees everywhere.. Now he wants to incorporate all the wrong reasons for abortion into and arguement againist the people who defend the right to abortion on principle..
