	I just remembered a recent case where a natural epidemic killed a
bunch of Native Americans.  Heavy Rains in New Mexico caused an extended
blooming seasons and the deermouse population exploded.  As happens with
exploding populations, an epidemic ensued and many deermice became
infected with a species of hantavirus.  These mice left infected waste in
human habitations and when people inhaled them (doing spring cleaning in
attics, garages, sheds, etc.) they became ill and some died.  Obviously
this kind of thing happens quite often in natural systems and ancient
Native Americans would have been subject to the same phenomena - except it
would have been worse.
