New Zealand anti-war activity.
>Auckland, New Zealand, Gulf Crisis committee formed in the first
Gulf War has revived itself. It has picketted the airbase from
which the NZ SAS contingent left for the Gulf today. It has
organised pickets of the US Consulate, and an emergency picket will
take place in the event of bombing. The following four points were
agreed as the basis of a united front:
(1) We condemn the US-led military forces renewed attack on Iraq and
call for their withdrawal from the region.
(2)Under any circumstances, we condemn plans by the US and Israel to
use nuclear weapons against Iraq.
(3)We oppose all mobilisation for New Zealand military involvement in
the Gulf and sup;port all those who refuse to go.
(4) We call for immediate lifting of sanctions and embargoes against
Iraq and condemn the UN and belligerent governments, including New
Zealand for the seven years of untold death and suffering inflicted
on Iraq by these means.
It would be good if the anti-war activists in the US and the
front-line states from which the attacks are likely to be made, could
coordinate international actions.
