Naturally I can understand Jim's enthusiam in pointing out that the movement on "fox hunts" draws people like Di's fineral. "But what has this to do with the central contradictions facing capitalism/imperialism with the demise of the Soviet Union..? "At best Jim's defense is a red and blue version of tailing various quite dubious movements which hardly have the social power to change anything.." Bob, wake up. If the central contradiction facing imperialism had no impact on real life events, then it wouldn't be the central contradiction, would it. You cannot go on saying we live in exceptional times forever. Eventually, the exception becomes the rule. Let's face it, the kind of social struggles that you are dreaming about are as rare as rocking- horse shit. If Marxism cannot explain the kinds of social conflicts that we have today then it would be about as much use as tits on a bull. You seem to think that Marxism is about insisting that nothing ever changes. I cannot think of any outlook that is more hostile to the spirit of Marxism. -- James Heartfield --- from list marxism-thaxis-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
