Yeah! I sure would like to hear Hugh's view on this being a teacher. However
I will present my honest opinion about the teacher corps here in Sweden
these days.

At least in the lower public school grades the corps are made up of quite
lowly paid women who in these days of down sizing and dismantling of the
welfare state are making quite a lot of noise about it. But they do it
unfortunately not like the classical industry worker and simply close the
schools down..

It is a twist of moral appeals to the ruling class on behalf of the "poor"
children who suffer under the cuts..They do not see themselves as part of
the working class and in fact are trapped in all kinds of bourgeois
ideological hangups. They are not comrades or workers but
"colleagues"..Their role is to uphold the ideology of bourgeois society and
make good honest pupils out of the kids..

Basic trade union ideology is weak if none existent. And where it exists it
is class collaboration for the "good" of the children rather then their own
lives as workers..

Then there is another side of the story in that the core of the teachers
corps are 40talist and generally conservative and awaiting pension connected
to not rocking the boat which is sinking like the fucking titanic!

Warm regards
Bob Malecki
