The socialist left is regrouping furiously (in non-Bolshevik, opportunist fashion, but it's early days yet). And the right is coming to pieces, as anyone who watched French TV yesterday could see. The UDF (Giscard d'Estaing's crew) fell apart at the touch of Le Pen's National Front. The others are writhing in agony as they see the presidencies and pickings of the regions within their grasp but only at the cost of alliances with the National Front. The NF is sneering and smirking and boasting and generally full of itself. And they're all coming to blows! Quite a circus. And would anyone like to claim that the working class and its mobilizations are not right slap bang in the middle of all this? To be continued...
