Subject: M-TH: Pleasure or Procreationism?

It seems to me that there is an identifiable current of thought on this
list, which seeks to define sex and sexuality not on the basis of pleasure
but on the basis of their alleged 'natural basis' upon procreation.

I have decided to call this current Procreationism. a line of thinking not
unlike the old-fashioned Church-sanctioned views on sex.

Procreationism is in my view anti-pleasure, in that sex and sexuality
unrelated to reproduction but productive of pleasure are, according to the
logic of Procreationism, to be thought of as 'less natural' than a limited
and specific form of sex act that can be used for the purpose of
reproduction.

Procreationism obstructs sexual agency of straight women as well as queers.
Naturalization of reproduction also hinders our struggles for women's right
to free abortion on demand and our self-determined control over
reproduction.
