I think the quote runs: freedom is the recognition of necessity and the
leap from necessity. The idea is similar to Hegel's transformation of
substance into subject (Science of Logic). In putting the stress on the
first part of the equation, rather as the Stalinist polymath Christopher
Caudwell did, you obliterate the meaning of the realm of freedom. Nobody
here is saying that we are already there, but that surely is the goal,
the overcoming of natural necessity and the extension of the realm of
freedom.
