Subject: M-TH: Uppdate Denmark and Germany!


This report is written on 2 May 1998.

In Denmark there were massive demonstrations in support of the strike now 
going in to its 6th day which has effectky shut down the country. There is 
overwhelming popular support for the strike on the streets..

The Social Democracy anf its bureaucratic trade union leadership are doing 
everything to try and sabotage the determination of the workers and their 
demands for more money, but foremost a 6th vacation week..

In speeches these reformist bureaucratic traitors time and again were 
whingning that we will do the best we can, but perhaps we can get one or two 
days more vacation and no more. Thus objectively selling out the workers 
before the negoiations even start!

The workers appear to be determined at this point to stay out untill ALL 
their demands are met. And this is backed up by the fact that they already 
thew the first agreement back in the faces of the trade union bureaucrats 
who had already signed it..In fact there is much talk about making this 
strike a general strike in order to win there demands..

Naturally there are still many illusions in the workers that the Social 
democracy and trade union bureaucracy is on their side. And just doing there 
best. But the increasing militance and determination by the Danish workers 
after years of mass unemployment, downsizing and layoffs is a great fresh 
wind that is blowing and shaking the very foundations of Danish society..

But unless a leadership comes forward based on the poltics of Lenin and Trotsky
which stops at nothing except a Danish October. Then all the determination 
and short time gains made by Danish workers can and will be taken back...

Germany..

In the wake of the fascists  electoral victory in state elections in Sachen 
Anhalt. The Nazi's are getting increasingly bolder and more provacative. In 
Liebzig they came out on the streets to demonstrate and the left mobilized 
over 4000 people to take on this provacation. The police intervened (against 
the left) counter demonstration and reports on the national TV here in 
Sweden are talking about "civil war" conditions in Liebzig!

And the Nazi electoral victory in Germany is spilling over the International 
borders! In Sweden the Nazi mobilized over 500 brown shirted thugs and broke 
the police lines and were able to take over the streets of a small city 
here. Only after hours and strong cop reserves being brought in from the 
outside were the Nazi's stopped as they rampaged through the streets!

Unfortunately the town where the Nazi's had prepared this provacation was a 
surprise to everybody (including the cops) and the left non-existent in 
order to mobilize against this Nazi scum..In fact the leader of the ex 
Euro-Communist now femnist left party was in Gothenburg giving 1st of May 
speeches about how anybody having any illusions that they are "Communists" 
any longerwill be quickly shown the door! This obviously means that the 
Euro-Communists are in Sweden facing a pre-emininent split as they move to 
step into the shoes of traditional Social Democracy which has been deserted 
for "new" social democracy.

Last night on the national news a leader of the Social Democracy was shown 
in his speech to first of May meeting. He took up the recent electoral 
victory of the Nazi's and the threat they pose not only to immigrants but 
all workers. He pointed out that the Nazi's had only one real point on their 
program and agenda "all non Germans out" pointing out that this same 
atmosphere is beginning to be felt here in Sweden..

Saying that the "people" must now begin to react before it is to late" 
..Natuarally
"Communists" could not agree more! But the traditional Social Democracy 
unfortunatel plays a central responsibility for the growing Nazi threat both 
in Germant and here in Sweden.

In a recent "radiotime" report I took up how the Social democracy fans the 
flames of anti-immigrant hysteria in Germany. And here in Sweden this has 
been exactly the same case. In fact it is the Social Democracy in power 
which has time and again tightened up the now draconian immigration laws.. 
Including trying to deport African children who came to Sweden when they 
were 11 and 12 years old alone! 

In fact it is the Social Democracy which wants to give lie detector tests to 
immigrants who have come here in the last ten years to see if they are 
telling the truth (!) about there backgrounds.

And unemployment is over 70% percent amongst immigrants in this country 
connected to growing segregation into immigrant ghettoes in the cities..

Meanwhile the Nazi's getting wind in there sails foremost in Germany and 
france has now the Nazi's moving in Scandinavia with ever increasing 
provacations on the streets of this country..

And as I said in my earlier report on Germany this week..

The Nazis were allowed to come to power in 1933 without a shot being fired, 
as the Stalinized Communist Party together with the Social Democracy 
parlyzed the best-organized workers-movement in Europe. Against their 
suicidal policy of capitulation, the Trotskyists fought for the United front 
of workers organizations against the Nazis:

"No common platform with the Social Democracy, or with the leaders of the 
German trade unions, no common publications, banners, placards! March 
separately, but strike together! Agree only how to strike, whom to strike 
and when to strike!"

In this tradition, the Spartakist Workers Party of Germany (SpAD)
German section of the International Communist League
fights for trade union/immigrant mobilizations, including all the intended 
victims of fascism, to stop Nazi provocations. And, with Trotsky, we hold 
that the fight to stop the fascists the genocidal shock troops held in 
reserve by the ruling class is inseparable from the revolutionary 
perspective of the proletarian struggle for state power. Our task is to 
build the revolutionary internationalist party that raises the consciousness 
of the working class to achieve this historic necessity.
