Subject: Introducing myself

Jukka is asking the new members of Marxism-Theory to do a little
self-introduction, so here goes:

I have been a long-time member of the various incarnations of
Marxism-lists put forth by Spoons, and I hope that in helping to co-found
Marxism-theory, I will have aided in the development of constructive
dialogue on issues of importance to radical social theory.

My own interests run the gamut from Marxism to libertarianism. I have
authored two books, MARX, HAYEK, AND UTOPIA (SUNY Press, 1995) and AYN
RAND: THE RUSSIAN RADICAL (Penn State Press, 1995) en route to the
completion of this trilogy with my forthcoming TOTAL FREEDOM. In this
trilogy of books, I am aiming to examine the dialectical sensibilities
within libertarian thought, while hoping to articulate the importance of
dialectic for any radical social science worth its title. My forthcoming
book examines dialectics from the ancients to the contemporary in Part
One, engages in a critique of non-dialectical forms of libertarian thought
in Part Two, and proposes more dialectical alternatives in that tradition,
in Part Three.

I am also currently co-editor, with Mimi Gladstein, of a controversial
volume due out in 1998, FEMINIST INTERPRETATIONS OF AYN RAND (Penn State
Press), and I am slated to co-edit, with Bertell Ollman -- who was my
mentor and doctoral dissertation adviser at NYU -- a three-volume work on
the history of dialectic.

I am a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Politics at New York
University. I look forward to interacting with my colleagues here, though
I suspect that my own work-load will very much influence the extent of my
involvement.

Happy Birthday Marxism-Theory!

Chris
