I think some messages do get repeated. As far as I can tell (and I know
that I too have been guilty of this) this is as as a result of some
problems at world.std.com which have made the list very slow at times;
therefore it is not immediately obvious that the original post has got
through, and the poster re-posts to make sure that his or her message
makes it.
I think it is also possible that such misunderstandings can be generated
by local (rather than list-wide) difficulties.
I hope that these problems on world will be resolved soon; in the
meantime, members of the list should exercise patience.
