Please forgive me for this `self- motivated' and `capitalistic' posting, but here are the formal publishing details: MARX, HAYEK, AND UTOPIA will be published as part of the SUNY Press series on the Philosophy of the Social Sciences. The book explores the critique of utopianism through a provocative comparison of the works of Marx and Hayek. It argues that both thinkers share elements of a radical, dialectical method which is opposed to rationalistic utopian constructivism. The differences between Marx and Hayek are not primarily political; they pertain to their assumptions about human knowledge. The book will be released for the Summer of 1995. AYN RAND: THE RUSSIAN RADICAL will be published by Penn State Press in late 1995. The book examines the philosophic thought of Ayn Rand, the controversial, Russian-born author of THE FOUNTAINHEAD and ATLAS SHRUGGED. It views Rand's "Objectivism" as a rejection - and affirmation - of important themes in Russian philosophy. Rand studied with the neo- Hegelian philosopher, N. O. Lossky, while at the University of Leningrad, and absorbed a dialectical method which profoundly influenced her literary and philosophic projects. I argue that Rand's distinctive blend of libertarianism and dialectics is an important contribution to 20th century radical social theory. Once again, please forgive my marketing pitch, but it seems far more effective to answer all the queries COLLECTIVELY. I'll be happy to keep interested parties informed. Thanks again. - Chris ============================================================Dr. Chris M. Sciabarra Visiting Scholar, N.Y.U.
