     Call for papers for the MID-SOUTH PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE
 
     The University of Memphis, February 24-25, 1995
 
     The 19th annual Mid-South Philosophy Conference is scheduled for
Friday afternoon and Saturday, February 24-25, at The University of
Memphis (formerly, Memphis State University).  Papers on any topic of
philosophic interest are welcomed.  Papers are limited to 30 minutes
reading time (normally, 12 double-spaced pages).  Send TWO copies and
an abstract to:

     Papers must be submitted by JANUARY 15, 1995.  Papers will be
reviewed by a committee.  Notification of acceptance will be made in
late January.  We will have commentators for each paper.  Those
interested in being commentators should notify Dr. Fritzman no later
than February 5 of availability and areas of competence.  His telephone

     Professor JOHN J. MCDERMOTT of Texas A & M University will be the
keynote speaker.  Funding for the keynote speaker is provided by a
generous grant from The University of Memphis Center for the Humanities,
directed by Professor Thomas Nenon.
 
     We will be running sessions parallel to the eighth annual University
of Memphis Undergraduate Philosophy Conference.  Please encourage your
students to attend and/or submit papers to that conference.  Professor
Nenon is working with the Undergraduate Philosophy Conference.  He may be

     Professor Nenon has reserved 25 rooms for Friday (February 24) and 10
rooms for Saturday (February 25), at the HOLIDAY INN MIDTOWN/MEDICAL
CENTER at 1837 Union Avenue for the Mid-South Philosophy Conference.  The
telephone number of the hotel is 901-278-4100.  The rate is $57.00 per
night per room.  Guests should call and make their own reservations
directly.  The deadline for guaranteed reservations is January 23.  The
hotel is about a 10 minute drive from campus.  The airport shuttle
service goes to the hotel for $8.00.
 
     Here are directions for those travelling by car:
>> From Nashville (I-40):  Take the north loop of I-240, then instead of
going over the bridge to Little Rock, take I-55 South towards Jackson.
Exit at the Madison Avenue exit, take Madison east about 1 mile to McLean
and turn right.  The hotel will be on your right after the first light.
>> From Little Rock or St. Louis (I-40 East):  Follow I-55 South to
Jackson.  Exit at the Madison Avenue exit, take Madison east about 1 mile
to McLean and turn right.  The hotel will be on your right after the
first light.
>> From Jackson, MS (I-55 South):  Follow the expressway north towards
the center of town (do not get on the loop around town). Exit at the
Union Avenue exit, go east one mile.
 
     Local activities and night-club outings are planned for those who
want a taste of the excellent night life in Memphis.
 
     The Mid-South Philosophy Conference is supported and underwritten
by the Philosophy Department and Center for the Humanities of The
University of Memphis, and by the Philosophy Department and Institute of
Liberal Arts of Oklahoma City University.
