About the Jack London question:

Yes I read MARTIN EDEN awhile back -- don't remember it that well.  Does
London have a theory of alienation himself?  He was a socialist after all,
but I don't think anything is said about this in MARTIN EDEN.  Martin's
alienation would be, by marxist standards, objective and not subjective, so
between him and the laundryman there would be a general state of alienation
and the question of "different kinds of alienation" becomes tough to answer.
