This is an immense field. My favorite (Marxist) text is Nicos Poulantzas,
_State, Power, Socialism_ On Gramsci and the state, you might try Christine
Buci-Glucksmann's text by that very name, or look up the writings in Chantal
Mouffe's collection on Gramsci.
Bob Jessop and David Held (separate authors) have both written good
introductions to the subject, and produced decent anthologies, but I forget
the titles at the moment. And finally, you should take a look at Stuart
Hall's writing on Thatcherism.
