Mike,

sorry I've taken a while to reply, I've been busy. I once
heard (only by word of mouth, though) that offically speaking the
working class was now smaller than the middle class; with the classes
defined by occupation, so that's where I got the idea of a smaller
working class. I am also aware that in the last century there were
large numbers of peasants which isn't so prvalent today.
Now you said that the only wages could really improve was to get
rid of the pool of cheap unemployed labour, i.e full employment. You
said that the aim for full employment was communismin another name,
but surely every political economists aim, no matter how right-wing,
is for full employment. What is disagreed upon is how this can be
achieved.
One thing has crossed my mind since I worte last week and
that is that Marx said a society had to have been industrialised
before it can embark on the road to communism, also that communism
had to be a global thing. That must therefore mean that in accordance
with marx we'er at least 100 years away from a global revolution
because all the developing countries have to idustrialise (which
looks quite unlikly in the more unstable ones, who's going to want to
invest in those?) the the workers have to become discontented LTHEN
they can have a go at revoultion. So whatever happens, it's not in my
life time.

Louise.
