Theory of contradiction - i am looking for a goody pithy discussion of the principle of contradiction within dialectical logic. appearance/essence problematic, hermeneutic suspicion, veil of appearance which requires a deeper more integrated analysis to explain apparent contradiction etc. suggestions? 2. A critique of analogy - this may be one for ralph, up kenneth burke's way. i am looking for a critique of the use of one historical phenomenon to represent or stand in for another. relations of the family for slavery in paternalist accounts, for example. one might also think of this as a problem of transmission as in the eighteenth brumaire - an impoverishment of politics in which material relations are obscured by atemporal phantoms, spectacle in place of the real. 3.Against the Man:Freud and Hegel - suggestions for work which considers these two thinkers together. am interested in considering similarity/difference of hermeneutic suspicion in both, deceptive nature of appearence, and paternalist model of power. master/slave, father/child. critique welcome. 4.Against the New Critic: Materialist critiques of the New Criticism and New Historicism, which attempts to read history through a series of frozen, static, and often anecdotal moments rather than through more rigourous forms analysis which broach causation, an empircal base of information, and a trajectory of events. 5. Against Psychonalysis: Good Marxist critiques of forms of psychoanlalytic criticism which erase social relations through positing the individual as focus of analysis. Oedipus Complex as tool to undermine material causes of social rebellion, for example... thanks, donna --- from list marxism-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu --- ------------------
